This weekend I attended a training seminar for CTSO advisors--CTSO stands for Career and Technical Student Organizations. As the new advisor for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) it was important for me to find out about my responsibilites and the upcoming events for the school year. The keynote speaker mentioned a statistic that I found surprising and I thought I would share it.
The four biggest employers in the world include*:
- U.S. Department of Defense
- People's Liberation Army (this figure only includes active military, not civilian personnel)
- Walmart
- McDonald's (this number includes all the privately owned franchises)
Six of the top 10 companies are from India and China (which makes sense due to their large populations). I was surprised that Walmart was so high on the list--approximately 1/300 people work for Wal-Mart.
I guess if I ever have to look for other work, I might want to start at the largest employer's--they are obviously doing something right.
