Zella Day - Hypnotic / by Krista Boivie

In her new single Hypnotic, Electro-pop artist Zella Day goes a little more stripped down with her sound. Aside from the snapping beat, the focus is on Zella’s ethereal voice which ranges from a whisper to a falsetto howl very effectively. Much in the same way that Ellie Goulding uses the quieter parts of her songs to pull you in so that she can blow you away when she goes full throat, Zella Day uses the swaying melody of Hypnotic, albeit with slightly less power. I like this track the more I listen to it and I think it would work even better if it was fully acoustic. The electronic effects in this song are the weakest part of it and anything that obscures the lead vocals should be done away with. B+
