Reflection / by Krista Boivie

On Saturday I found out that one of my former students had passed away.  She was a bright, beautiful girl just starting her journey into adulthood.  I spent a considerable amount of time reading the posts on her Facebook wall and they were a combination of favorite stories, things I wish I had said and regrets.

This is the third student I have lost in the past year and a half.  I am no stranger to grief and loss, but each of these deaths are especially difficult because the kids are so young and haven't had the opportunity to fully realize their potential.

It is not the length of life, but the depth of life.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

I hope that their lives were full.  In honor of my former students I want to dedicate this week to really paying attention to my current students.  I want them to know how much I appreciate and enjoy being their teacher.
